Bad Bunny Made Me Go Viral… and Now He’s Making Me Cook
I first discovered Bad Bunny’s work back in 2020 and instantly became a fan. I’d always wanted to learn the lyrics to his songs but you know how life goes… Then he was announced as the Super Bowl halftime performer, and I knew it was finally time to get serious.!
I’m a performer at heart and obsessed with making people laugh, which is why I started posting online earlier this year — hoping to build a little corner of the internet where we can all take a break from the doom-scroll. I began filming myself learning Mr. Bunny’s songs, and I was pleasantly shocked at how quickly the series — and this community — began to grow!
I’m so excited to keep learning, celebrating Latin culture, and spreading joy. And what better way to do that than by teaming up with Cocina to make one of Mr. Bunny’s favorite dishes?
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Arroz con Salchichas: Mr. Bunny-Approved Comfort Bowl
Ingredients
(10 servings )
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup fresh or thawed sofrito
- 1/2 cup white onion, chopped
- 1/4 cup green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- 1 1/2 teaspoons sazón
- 1 teaspoon adobo
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 5–7 canned Vienna sausages, chopped (Benito’s fave!)
- 2 cups parboiled rice
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 2 dried bay leaves
- Salt to taste
Let’s Cook (Press Play on Un Verano Sin Ti)
- Warm up the stage
Heat a cast-iron or aluminum dutch oven (aka caldero — iconic) over medium heat. Add the olive oil and sofrito. Sauté for 3–4 minutes, until your kitchen smells like a world tour just kicked off. - Add the backup dancers
Green pepper + onion go in next. Cook until the onion turns translucent — like day-one VIP wristband status. - Enter: the superstar sausages
Add chopped Vienna sausages, tomato paste, sazón, adobo, and the chicken bouillon cube. Stir like you’re mixing a dembow beat - Broth drop
Pour in chicken broth + bay leaves. Bring it to a boil. Taste the broth — add salt if needed. (Flavor should hit like a surprise album drop.) - Rice time!
Add rice and make sure every grain is submerged. Let it boil a few minutes, until the rice starts slurping up those juices. - Set the vibe low & slow
Once the top layer looks nearly dry, give the rice one good stir with a wooden spoon. Cover with a lid wrapped in aluminum foil (classic trick), lower the heat, and cook 20–25 minutes. - Final encore
Remove lid, let it simmer 5–10 minutes more. Rice is ready when no liquid remains and the grains are looking plump like Benito’s streaming numbers
And there you have it — my very first homemade take on Mr. Bunny’s go-to comfort food. Honestly? I feel like I just unlocked a new level of fandom. If Bad Bunny ever knocks on my door hungry (a boy can dream), at least now I’m ready.
