It’s the last day of Cholesterol Awareness Month but let’s be honest, you should be aware of your heart health every day and not just during its designated month. And to make it less daunting and reduce the research stress, we’ve teamed up with our friends at Mazola to give you a few tips on how you can improve your cholesterol levels all year long!
Friendly Reminder 101: Cholesterol is a waxy substance that comes from your body and food. Your body needs some cholesterol to function properly and produce hormones, Vitamin D and digest fat. But not too much cholesterol!
Fruits and Veggies – Add them to your meals. Spinach and tomatoes add substantial nutritional value and give your plate some color, too!
Exercise – You don’t have to be a gym rat or #SwoleAF, just be consistent (4-5 days/week) and get your 30 minutes + in (running, walking, cycling, hiking, etc.). No excuses.
Reduce – Read labels carefully and limit foods that are high in saturated fats. Don’t let the peer pressure of eating a deep fried whatever so you can post it on the gram get to you!
Swap – Substitute fatty fish for beef or nuts for snacks that are high in saturated fats to lower your risk of heart disease.
Rest – Get off of Insta and get your 6-8 hours of sleep at night! More sleep equals a healthier metabolism. Need I say more?
Cheers to a happy, healthy heart – Salud!
