5 Latin Sauces for your Chicken Wings

5 Latin Sauces for your Chicken Wings

One of the most beloved American party foods is chicken wings, traditionally coated with a tangy and spicy buffalo sauce and paired with a blue cheese dressing. Delicious! But who says you can’t reinvent this classic to reflect your Latin American heritage?

Here are 5 mouth-watering sauces to turn your chicken wings into a Latin delicacy:

Al Pastor

This sweet and savory sauce from Central Mexico was influenced by the culinary traditions of Lebanese immigrants in Mexico. Traditionally used with pork, this sauce pairs beautifully with chicken as well. To make your Al pastor chicken wings, marinate them in a blend of chilies, orange juice, vinegar, chili powder, garlic, salt, oregano, cumin, chipotles, and adobo, bake until golden brown and dress with cilantro, lime and diced pineapple.

Mojo Cubano

Citrus garlic sauce? Yes please! Mojo is a classic and very easy to make Cuban marinade, mainly used for meat, especially lechón asado (roasted pig). To make the sauce, simply mix garlic, onion, orange juice, lime juice, oregano, peppercorns, and salt until blended. Marinate your chicken wings in the sauce and pop them in the oven until crispy. Tip: the longer you marinate them, the tastier they will be!

Mole

Mexico is responsible for many delicious sauces in Latin American gastronomy, but one of its best is mole, an exquisite mix of spices and chocolate in a thick savory sauce. Traditionally used with chicken, this sauce can make for some delicious chicken wings. To prepare them, simply season chicken wings with salt and pepper and broil them skin side up. Dress them with the mole sauce and sprinkle with green onions.

Chimichurri

This beloved Argentinian sauce is a classic during asados (bbq), and can make for some tasty chicken wings. Its vibrant green color comes from parsley, which is finely chopped with garlic and onion and mixed with vinegar, water, salt, oregano, pepper flakes, and black pepper. Make your wings Argentinian style by grilling them and then spooning the chimichurri sauce on top.

Sweet & Spicy Guava Sauce

Guava is a fruit used in many desserts in Latin America, but it can also be delicious in a sweet and spicy sauce for chicken wings. To make the sauce, mix melted guava jelly, lime juice, black pepper and red pepper, garlic, oil and salt. Marinate your chicken wings, put them on skewers and grill to perfection.
