How Well Do You Know Your Latin Cocktails?

Can you guess the main ingredient in these cocktails?

(Please, find the answers below)

1/ MOJITO –

  1. TEQUILA
  2. RUM
  3. GIN
  4. VODKA

We all know and love Mojitos, but did you know they originated in Cuba? This poolside go-to cocktail can be traced back to the 16th century!

2/ CAIPIRINHA –

  1. PISCO
  2. RUM
  3. VODKA
  4. CACHAÇA

Caipirinhas are a staple of Brazilian culture. Perfect for both night-clubbing or beach-bumming. They’re simple, they’re refreshing, and they’re most certainly potent!

3/ MICHELADA –

  1. VODKA
  2. MEXICAN BEER
  3. RUM
  4. TEQUILA

Nothing says Sunday brunch like a nice cold Michi! It’s the Mexican version of a Bloody Mary only with more kick, less punch, and, say it with me… BEER!

4/ PIÑA COLADA –

  1. VODKA
  2. GIN
  3. RUM
  4. TEQUILA

Also known as the national drink of Puerto Rico! And one sip is guaranteed to make you feel like you’re sunbathing on the beaches of San Juan.

5/ PALOMA –

  1. VODKA
  2. TEQUILA
  3. CACHAÇA
  4. RUM

Paloma’s have been living in the margarita’s shadow for decades. Mexicans make one hell’uva tequila-based cocktail, but they created a gem when they decided to throw grapefruits into the mix.

6/ PISCO SOUR –

  1. VODKA
  2. PERUVIAN BEER
  3. WHISKY
  4. PISCO

It’s all in the name. Peruvians have been making Pisco since the 1500’s, but mixing it with sour citrus juice and sugar is what made Pisco a household name.

7/ CUBA LIBRE –

  1. RUM
  2. RED WINE
  3. AGUARDIENTE
  4. TEQUILA

The original ‘Rum & Coke.” It goes by many names, but Cubans were the first to stumble on this delightful concoction. Originally made with brown sugar and water, Cuba Libres have been around since the late 1800’s!

8/ CLERICÓ –

  1. TEQUILA
  2. VODKA
  3. WHITE WINE
  4. PISCO

The Argentines got it right when they decided to turn the classic Spanish Sangria into a white wine party in a glass. This summer favorite not only quenches your thirst… it satisfies your appetite.

9/ CANELAZO –

  1. TEQUILA
  2. AGUARDIENTE
  3. RUM
  4. CACHAÇA

Colombia is known for its incredibly powerful Aguardiente… also known as “fire water.” This cocktail of Aguardiente, sugar, and cinnamon definitely packs a punch and has been a favorite of Andes dwellers for over a century.

 10/ MARGARITA –

  1. TEQUILA
  2. VODKA
  3. RUM
  4. WHISKEY

Ending on a high note! Probably the most famous of all the Latin cocktails. Surprisingly, this Mexican superstar is pretty new to the “drink scene” dating back to only the 1930’s. Either way… I’ll have another! Rocks, salt, please.
