Celebrities have much more in common with us than you think–especially when it comes to sharing our love for authentic Latin cuisine. It’s hard for anyone to resist the bold and electric flavors found in every dish across Latin America. From Cameron Diaz to Beyoncé, these stars reveal their favorite Latin dishes they claim as their guilty pleasure.
Believe it or not but Diaz comes from a long line of Cuban heritage and grew up immersing herself in the culture, language and food. As a child she fell in love with the savory and crunchy chicharron and still enjoys it as a snack.
Chicharron is a dish made famous by Cuban chefs, and consists of frying pork belly that is still attached to the skin. For first timers, they are certainly not for the faint of heart, but a single taste will have you coming back again and again.
Recently having said she feels indebted to Latin culture, we think she also might have been talking about the food. Rihanna always goes in to her favorite Latin diner in New York City to order lomo saltado, a traditional Peruvian beef stir-fry.
Peruvian food, in general, is as rich in flavor and as steeped in local history and culture as Latin cuisine can get. Lomo saltado puts some of the best aspects of Peruvian cooking in the spotlight: quality ingredients, globally influenced flavors, and an attention to craft and detail you won’t find anywhere else.
She loves Mexican food. In her own words: “I make a really amazing egg tortilla in the morning. It’s my special thing. I make guacamole, salsa, and scrambled eggs, and then I cook the tortilla. It’s pretty simple, really, but yummy.”
This San Antonio native is just as loca over Mexican food as we are. Although she finds it difficult to choose just one, a warm bowl of tortilla soup is one dish she claims she cannot live without!
As Mexican favorite, tortilla soup is a one-pot dish anyone can throw together at the last minute. Typically, it’s made from leftover chicken breast that has been shredded, then warmed in a broth of onion, corn, black beans, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime juice. Serve with your favorite tortilla chips.
It’s no shock that even Beyoncé loves the rich and creamy goodness of guacamole. The singer even stormed the internet with her very own easy guacamole recipe she uses to whip up a flavorful and healthy snack for friends and family.
Everyone has their favorite version of guacamole (even Beyoncé!). And whether you use yellow onion or red, cilantro or parsley, lemon juice or lime, it will always be something that reminds you of fresh tropical breezes and cold beer. Salud!
